Q: Can anyone submit to InfoLists.com? And are there any associated fees? (Can I buy a listing?)

A: Anyone can submit a list to the site and we strongly encourage all contributions that meet our submission guidelines.

Infolists does not charge anything for submission or consideration, or guarantee admission for a fee.

Q: What types of information can I submit?

A: We encourage all types of useful information submissions. Properly formatted lists with unique content are the most likely to be added to the directory.

Q: What are the restrictions on the types of content that may be submitted.

A: As stated in our terms of submission we do not accept list submissions that contain any of the following:

* Any copyrighted material to which you do not hold the rights, or any material to which you do not agree to relinquish your rights.

* Any material containing pornographic, sexually explicit, or otherwise lude content

* Any material depicting violence, hate crimes, racism or that is offensive in general.

* Any material that contains profanity or vulgar statements

* Any material relating to drugs, organized crime, or illegality in any form.

Q: How do I submit a list to the directory?

A: InfoLists.com submissions must be in the proper list format created by Twigs List Management Software. Click here to download a free version of this software.

We also ask that users be a member of the directory so that we may track list submissions and have contact information if we have questions regarding a list submission or list content. Membership is free and takes only a few minutes. Click here to signup if you aren't already a member.

Once you have created a properly formatted list you may submit it to the category to which you believe it is the best fit by clicking the “Submit your list to this category” link on that particular category page.

Q: Is there a required format or a preferred style for lists that will appear in the directory?

A: We allow all types of list and list styles. However, we do ask that you make the information as easy to read as possible and refrain from using any extra symbols or markings in the lists. Editors will be most likely to approve lists that are easy to read and well formatted.

Q: Is my list guaranteed to be accepted if it is properly formatted and well written?

A: List submissions are not guaranteed, and sometimes even properly formatted lists will not be added if the category editor feels the content is not useful to directory users, does not fit the category, or is not unique. However, it is our goal to include as many useful lists in the directory as possible.

Q: What are the key criteria for list acceptance.

A: Editors consider many criteria when judging a list for addition to a category of the directory. Among the most significant are: how useful the content is, if the content is unique content, whether the content is well written and grammatically correct, whether the content fits the category, and whether the content is written objectively and without unnecessary bias.

Q: Can I promote my business or endorse a product in a list in the directory?

A: We strive to provide our visitors with as much useful, unbiased, and factually sound information as possible. As a result, it is usually best to avoid any type of direct endorsements or personal opinions in your lists. However, there are times that businesses or products may be referenced, but be sure to ask yourself if it is completely necessary. Lists that show bias or outright endorsements of products, services or companies will not be included in the directory.

For instance: If you are submitting a list on how to plan a wedding, a list that contained an item that stated it would be a good idea to visit a professional wedding planner would probably be acceptable. A list that stated to be sure to visit Thelma's Wedding Planning in New Jersey would not be acceptable.

Q: Can I provide personal or contact information in my lists?

A: In most cases the answer is no. We do not allow lists that contain personal phone numbers, addresses, emails, or other contact information for you or any other individuals.

Q: My list does not appear to have been accepted to the directory. Can I resubmit the list again for consideration?

A: We ask that you please not submit the same list multiple times to the directory. If you feel you have made SUBSTANTIAL changes and improvements to the list, you may resubmit it. But remember that our editors are very busy and you will not increase your chances of acceptance by making them work overtime with lists that they have already determined aren't acceptable for addition to the directory.

Q: I have submitted my list, it is properly formatted, and I believe it would be of real value in the directory. However, it has still not been added. Is there an appeal process for directory submissions?

A: There is not a formal appeals process for list submission to the directory.

However, if you feel your list is being rejected unfairly and your list was submitted over 3 weeks ago (it is very common for list consideration to take 2-3 weeks during busy periods) then you may contact the editor of the category to which you have submitted your list. This may be done by clicking on the editors name on the category page, and then selecting contact this editor on the editor's profile page. Please remember that our editors are volunteers, and are often very busy with other things along with their work at the directory and treat them with the respect you would a volunteer at a community service organization.

Q: I want to submit a useful list, but I don't want it to be distributed to others outside the InfoLists directory. Is this possible?

A: No. All lists included in the directory will be downloadable from the site. As stated in our terms of submission, you are forfeiting any and all rights to your content by submitting it to the directory. It is not uncommon for these lists to be shared or redistributed by others after download. Please do not submit lists with proprietary or copyrighted content, or anything you don't want shared with others.

Q: I have improved on a list that is currently in the directory, can I submit that list? Can I make additions or improvements to a list I have previously submitted that is already included in the directory.

A: We do not allow lists that contain items from other lists within the directory. You are also not allowed to submit lists that contain portions written by other users.

At this time we are also unable to allow changes or additions to lists already included in the directory. If you have additional content to contribute, please add it to the comments for the existing list, or submit a new list with the new, unique content. In the future we hope to have a system in place which will allow verified users to update their own lists and submit those changes to be reviewed by an editor, but we don't have those capabilities at this time.

Q: Will I be notified when a decision is made on a list I have submitted? Will I receive an explanation if my list is denied submission?

You will not be notified specifically when a list is accepted into the directory or removed from consideration. However, you will be able to see your lists that have been included in the directory or are pending consideration in your member profile. Thus if a list you have submitted is no longer pending and is not listed as a contribution to the directory, it has not been added.

You will often not receive any explanation as to why your list was not included in a category, this is especially true if the list was submitted into an unrelated category or violated our terms of submission. However, on occasion, an editor may go above and beyond the call of duty and provide feedback on a list you have submitted. This will generally only be done if there are a small number of specific items that caused them to deny your list addition to your category.
